The Athol Golden Age Club is organizing a scenic Newport Rail excursion for area senior citizens. The Grand Bellevue Rail Dining Experience will take place on Wednesday, October 17. The outing will remind participants of the golden days of rail travel. Attendees will enjoy a classic Pullman dining car setting during a 90-minute leisurely ride through the countryside of Aquidneck Island with views of Narragansett Bay. A full course luncheon will be served with the following entre options: chicken stuffed with broccoli and cheese, sirloin tips, or, Bellevue Ocean Medley (a combination of Saffron rice, shrimp, scallops and sausage). The selected option must be given upon registering.

After the luncheon, there will be an hour’s stroll through Brick Marketplace, a shopping paradise of boutique shops and historic buildings that all blend in with the harborside ambiance of the famous seaside town. In case of inclement weather, a bus tour of the area will be substituted for the downtown tour.

To make reservations contact Jean McNally at 978-249-7519. Voicemail messages may be left. Calls will be returned as soon as possible. Checks should be made out to Athol Golden Age Club and payment is due by September 29. Seat assignments are made upon receipt of payment.

Arrival time at the Athol Senior Center, Lord Pond Plaza, is 8:15 a.m. Departure is 8:30 a.m. and return is approximately 5 p.m. Refunds for a one-day trip are given only if the tour is sold out three weeks in advance and the ticket can be resold by the purchaser or purchased by someone on the club’s wait list.
