A travel company claims to have identified Northumberland’s best beach.
But are they right?
Which stretch of sand do you think deserves the title of county’s most spectacular shoreline?
For luxury holiday cottage company, Coastal Retreats, it’s Bamburgh beach which claims the crown.
They say 53% of their customers voted for the beach, in the shadow of the spectacular castle.
Fiona Mckeith, Coastal Retreats director, said: “We weren’t surprised to see Bamburgh in the top spot.
“It is such a dramatic location, which is often the setting for Hollywood movies, and provokes such fond memories in those who have visited it; whether you like clambering in the dunes or just watching the waves from the uncrowded, sheer expanse of beach.
“One entrant described it as ‘Britain’s best beach bar none’ and we couldn’t agree more.”
Now, Bamburgh certainly is stunning.
But beautiful Northumberland is filled with incredible beaches, from the well-known to the hidden gems.

Embleton Bay is also home to sweeping white sands and a castle view: in this case the more rugged, semi-ruined Dunstanburgh Castle.
At Druridge Bay, you’ll find a wild expanse, while the beach at Seahouses offers all the joys of a seaside town (fish and chips while watching the waves, anyone?)
Or perhaps you enjoy something even more remote, and love to head out on the walk out to Ross Back Sands for some peace and quiet.
Vote in our poll, and comment to tell us why your favourite shoreline is the best in the county.
What about your favourite “hidden gem” beaches, that others might not know about? Do you prefer a wild, remote coastline, or would you rather be able to get a pint or a cuppa while watching the waves?
